I am a doctoral student in the Learning Sciences and Psychological Studies program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before I started at UNC, I earned a BS in Biology and MAT in Science Education at the University of Georgia, and have worked in maintaining research collections in a museum and doing field work in an ecology lab.
I am interested in the ways science education can prepare students to address complex problems such as issues involving environmental justice, public health, and responsible uses for biotechnology. This has led to work focused on how learners understand and represent complex systems, use models to understand social issues, understand perspectives of people they disagree with, and seek new information about issues as they unfold.
Outside of work, I enjoy taking pictures, riding bikes, and spending time outside with my dog and partner.
